Gentle Skin Care

Maintaining a proper skin care routine is a very important part of your rosacea treatment strategy. People with rosacea often find that their skin is sensitive, so it is particularly important to choose skin care products that are gentle and non-irritating.

Follow these four tips to see the best results from your treatment:

1 Gently cleanse skin Everyday soaps and cleansers may be too harsh for rosacea-prone skin, causing dryness and irritation. Use a gentle skin cleanser that is non-irritating, soap-free, oil-free and fragrance-free. Apply cleanser gently with fingers. Rinse with plenty of lukewarm water and blot dry gently with a soft towel--do not rub your face.
2 Follow medical treatment, as prescribed Always administer prescribed medication(s) as directed by your doctor.
3 Moisturize & protect Rosacea can cause dryness, upsetting the skin's protective barrier. To help restore moisture without causing irritation, apply a water-based moisturizer as needed. Make sure it is fragrance-free, non-comedogenic (which means it won't clog your pores) and does not contain lanolin.

For year round protection from the sun, which can trigger rosacea symptoms, choose a moisturizer that contains a broad-spectrum sunscreen. For days when you'll be spending more time outdoors, add a sunscreen for additional protection against prolonged exposure to the sun.

4 Apply cosmetics, and/or corrective camouflage as desired Cosmetics may be used to conceal the effects of rosacea. Green-tinted makeup can be used to reduce redness. This can be followed by a skin-tone foundation with natural yellow tones, avoiding those with pink or orange hues. However, make sure you choose non-irritating products that do not clog pores, to avoid aggravating rosacea.
